Dental implant

 

Artificial substitute for natural tooth root.
The tooth that replaces it is affixed to the implant that protrudes from the gum.

 

 

Uses

They can replace teeth that are not renewed.

Can support a full denture, making it more secure and comfortable.

They can support a fixed bridge, eliminating not use a removable denture and / or adjacent teeth grinding.

They can help in replacing a single tooth without affecting the adjacent teeth.

 

 

Terms

The ideal patient should have a good health and adequate bone in principle to support the implant.

Dental implants can replace teeth in the same way as do the roots of natural teeth.

Implants are an alternative to dentures that move or cause pain.

Disadvantages

An implant requires a greater financial investment than a removable denture or a conventional fixed bridge.

It also requires an investment of time you can take from 4 to 10 months from onset until treatment is completed.

If you consider how long it can last for a dental implant, the investment in time is reasonable.

Like any surgical procedure, dental implants involve risks of infection.

Occasionally you can lose some and needs to be replaced.

 

 

Treatment

Treatment may vary depending on the type of implant and the patient's health. For example, many patients can make the treatment of dental implants in common, others may require surgery, most can be done with local anesthesia and other interventions can be performed with sedation or general anesthesia for patient comfort.

The first step is installing dental implants in bone.

The second step, after a wait of 4 months in the mandible or 6 months in the upper maxillar, attachments are placed through the gum, which are the ones who hold the future prosthesis.

The third and final step is the preparation of the prosthesis on the abutments placed in the second step, firmly and accurately.
After treatment is completed, brushing, flossing, plaque control and regular visits to the implantologist are necessary to ensure success.
